Learn to speak the 4 different Mandarin tones, which change the meaning of a word. Gabrielle speaks them using different words as examples, with the Pinyin displayed for each. Like for "ma":

"mā" - the first tone; this means "mother"
"má" - the second tone; this means "numb"
"mǎ" - the third tone; this means "horse"
"mà" - the fourth tone; this means "swear"
